The Route

The sailing route follows the south coast of Japan, where a very strong current flows northeast along the coast. Depending on the weather, we will sail either close or far from the shore. The journey takes us through Osaka Bay and Wakayama Bay into the East China Sea. From there, we navigate the Huangpu River, which flows through the city center of Shanghai, dividing the city into two parts: Puxi in the west and Pudong in the east. Puxi represents the older part of the city, while Pudong is the more modern business district.

About a week of sailing will be required to arrive in the metropolis of Shanghai. Here, this unique sailing adventure concludes, and you can go explore this dynamic Chinese city.

KOBE BEEF, TOWER AND KITANO IJINKAN

In the harbour of Kobe, the captain and his crew welcome you aboard the Clipper Stad Amsterdam.

Kobe is a vibrant and diverse city with a blend of modern and historical elements. The city is a popular destination for both tourists and residents of Japan

Having one of Japan’s busiest seaports, makes Kobe a crucial economic and trade center. On the culinary front, there is something remarkable to mention about the city. Kobe is globally renowned for its high-quality, tender, and exceptionally flavorful beef: Kobe Beef. Many restaurants in the city serve delicious dishes featuring Kobe Beef.

Other notable attractions in Kobe include the port, Meriken Park, the Kobe Tower, and the historic foreign settlements like Kitano Ijinkan. Additionally, the city offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the sea.

THE BUSTLING CITY; SHANGHAI

On Sunday evening, June 2nd, we’ll reach Shanghai after covering approximately 830 nautical miles! The next morning, our crew will say goodbye, and you’ll undoubtedly look back on an extraordinary experience

The modern and highly vibrant city of Shanghai is located on the east coast of China, at the mouth of the Yangtze River. The city boasts an impressive skyline with ultra-modern architecture. Additionally, it serves as a significant financial and trade center, playing a major role in China’s technological innovation and development.

Shanghai also has much to offer in terms of history. You shouldn’t miss the historical districts like the Bund, with its old colonial architecture! The breathtaking view of the Pudong district with towering skyscrapers, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and the Jin Mao Tower makes the Bund a major tourist attraction. The view is particularly stunning in the evening when all the neon lights are illuminated.

Sailing & Adventure

During the sailing voyage on the Pacific Ocean, taking you all the way to Tokyo, you’ll learn as much as possible about sailing on a square-rigged ship.

What could be more beautiful than standing lookout with nothing but the sea around you? It’s a unique experience to feel small and insignificant in the overwhelming nature. Gaze into the waves, enjoy the vast ocean, and perhaps spot a few whales, which are frequently seen in the Pacific Ocean.

Besides sailing, there are plenty of other activities! We also recommend you to assist the crew, for instance, in maintenance, to truly experience life on board a sailing ship.
